Two pia planes escape mid air collision

Over Iranian territory on Sunday, two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft nearly avoided a mid-air catastrophe when they were perilously close to one another.

Due to suspected incompetence on the part of Iranian Air Traffic Control (ATC), which is said to have cleared the same height for both PIA planes.

The planes' Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS) were triggered when they sensed danger, instructing one aircraft to rise and the other to descend in accordance with usual procedure, according to the magazine.

All aircraft are equipped with TCAS, which automatically pilots the aircraft by interacting with the TCAS of other aircraft.

The event was verified by a PIA spokeswoman to the media, who added: "PIA is writing to Iranian air traffic control (ATC) to investigate as the Iranian ATC commanded the jet, but it was incorrect."

He noted that the descent would have crossed the route of PIA flight PK-211, a Boeing 777, which was flying at 36,000 feet when the PK-268 flight was given permission to descend to 20,000 feet.

The representative further stated that both planes' TCAS automatically directed and adjusted their courses.

By interacting with the TCAS of other aircraft, it automatically pilots the plane.

The Aerial Collision Avoidance Device (ACAS), often referred to as the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), is an airborne system that serves as the final line of defence against mid-air collisions and is meant to boost pilot awareness of adjacent aircraft.

TCAS uses the transponder signals of adjacent aircraft to warn pilots of the possibility of mid-air collisions.

Prior to 2020, a plane crash in Pakistan that claimed 97 lives was caused by human error on the part of the pilot and air traffic management, according to an investigation investigating the tragedy. On May 22, a passenger airliner crashed into several homes near Karachi.

Only a few days had passed since Pakistan resumed permitting commercial flights following the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions when the disaster occurred.
