World Championships, Arshad Nadeem finishes sixth in the javelin competition

  • Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan finished fifth in the javelin final of the World Championships in Oregon, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to place in the top eight.

According to a report in Global Athletics, Grenada's Anderson Peters defeated Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra to retain his world javelin championship on Saturday. Peters had been in the lead throughout the tournament and saved his finest throw for last with a throw of 90.54 metres.

Peters was the only athlete to cross the 90-meter line, and he did it three times at Hayward Field against strong winds.

Chopra came in second with a best throw of 88.13 metres, while Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, who had won silver in Tokyo, placed third with an effort of 88.09 metres.

Arshad Nadeem finished fifth with 86.16m, while German Julian Weber stayed in fourth. Lassi Etelatalo of Finland finished sixth (82.70m). Oliver Helander of Finland and Andrian Mardare of Moldova both threw more than 82 metres, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

The majority of throwers prefer a headwind, but today there was one, according to Peters. So, today was a little difficult, but I managed it. It is not simple to defend the championship. I had to exert effort.

"I already knew I was the champion, but I worked on my technique in every throw until I eventually made it through," the contestant said of his most recent try.

Chopra's throw was farther than the 87.58m he threw in Tokyo, where he made sporting history by being the first Indian to win an individual gold medal.

India had never won a silver medal in a World Championship before, and Anju Bobby George's bronze in the women's long jump at Paris in 2003 was the nation's only other silver medal ever.

Chopra claimed he wasn't feeling his best. He was attempting to become the first male javelin thrower since Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway in 2009 to win the world championship after winning the Olympics.

"During the first three tosses, I didn't feel well. I didn't do a proper warm-up," he said. "During the throw, I felt something in my groyne, but I believe it is okay. Today's experience was positive.

Next year will also bring the World Championships, so I'll attempt to do better in Budapest.

In a video posted by the Sports Authority of India, Chopra remarked, "I feel extremely pleased after winning a silver for India" (SAI). I'll strive to perform better at the World Championships the following year.

Johannes Vetter of Germany, who holds the second-longest throw of all time and won gold in London in 2017, missed the World Championships because of a shoulder ailment.
